Sports In Norway
Background Information
The three most well known sports are skiing, handball and football (soccer). Skiing was used as much as 4,000 years ago. They skied to get around, it was basically the only way to get around in the mountains because they didn't have trains, cars, or planes. Skiing is one of the most favorite sports in Norway, they have many skiing schools and most people still ski to get around. Handball is also very important to Norwegians. The Norwegian women's handball team won the European tournament in 2006. They have several teams one for each age group. Boys and girls from the age of six to men and women over 50! Women generaly play Handball more than men. But that's because football is more important to men than it is to women. football is very popular in Norway as it is in the rest of the world. Kids play 4 days a week and then met their friends and play more. all these sports are a very important of Norway and it's people.
Famous Person
A common story from the Birkebeiners or Birchlegs is that two men saved a prince. The prince's name was Haakon Haakonsen. The prince at the time was just a baby. The man carried the baby at least 55 km. In a snowstorm on skies, not many people can do that. In fact most people can't even carry a baby on skies!
Symbol For Sports In Norway
My symbol for all these sports in norway especially skiing is a mountain. I chose a mountain because the mountains in norway affect everything that the people there do. Norway is basically a big mountain range if you look at our map you will notice it. So wherever you are in Norway there is always a mountain, and there is always a place to ski
